Flute
The heart of this kit is a High Spirit Sparrow Hawk flute in the key
of A. This is a professional quality flute. You have a choice of aromatic cedar, Spanish cedar or walnut.
The key of A, this is our most popular flute, great for beginners and smaller
hands, although everyone can use and enjoy it. The bore and size
makes it easy to play while it still has a full resonating voice. The cedar
(a softer wood) has a warmer sound than the harder walnut wood version of
the Sparrow Hawk. The walnut is bright and clear in sound. Spanish cedar is harder than aromatic cedar but softer than walnut. The choice of wood is
up to you. This flute can be played as both a 5-hole or 6-hole flute.
It has 6 holes and comes with a leather tie that easily converts it into a
5-hole flute. When comfortable just remove the leather tie and experience the
use of the 6-hole. 20" long.
Odell makes each Sparrow Hawk in Arizona from a solid piece of the finest
wood (instead of gluing two halves together as is so common) eliminating splits
or separation caused by moisture of the breath. Each flute is finished with
three coats of a non-toxic hardening oil for durability and clarity of sound,
and it is precision-tuned so that it will blend perfectly with other
instruments.

Beginners Song Book
Here is a book of 15 simple songs written for beginners to be
played on the six hole Native American flute. These are our easiest songs. Four
songs may be played as rounds with two groups or two flutes. No music
reading skills are necessary, as all the notations are graphics of the 6 holes,
the dark holes being the ones you must cover with your fingers to make that
particular tone. It is plastic spiral bound so it lays flat in a music stand.
Native American flute music comes from the soul, and is normally extemporaneous,
but sometimes it is useful to have some music to practice as you learn to play
it, and that is why this book can fulfill a special need.
